Drillbone Root Repair

Root repair is a surgical technique for treating posterior horn meniscal root tears, a serious injury that often leads to accelerated knee osteoarthritis. Without repair, up to 30% of patients require total knee arthroplasty (TKA) within five years, and many continue to suffer joint pain after debridement or partial meniscectomy—often due to undiagnosed or untreated root tears.

When performed correctly, root repair achieves a success rate of over 95%, providing rapid pain relief, restored function, and protection against degenerative joint changes.

The procedure is straightforward once mastered: the surgeon must know the MCL release technique, understand the anatomical root footprint, and have access to the proper instruments (a targeting device for tunnel preparation and a suturing tool). Only two sutures are needed.

With our Root Repair Guide, the technique becomes highly streamlined and reproducible, enabling surgeons to adopt it quickly and efficiently.
