AchilloCordPLUS™ System

The AchilloCordPLUS is a densely woven flexible tubular structure, 5 mm in diameter and 800 mm in length. Both ends of the device are flat, allowing it to be threaded easily through the eye of a probe, which is used to pull it through soft tissue and bone tunnels.

  1. The technique is performed through six stab incisions and a small posteromedial incision
  2. Distal fixation is provided by threading the AchilloCordPLUS through a small (3.2 mm diameter) bone tunnel in the os calcis, followed by a single pass in the distal tendon
  3. Proximal fixation is provided by threading the AchilloCordPLUS in a figure of eight through the proximal tendon stump
  4. The AchilloCordPLUS is tied with a knot at the site of the rupture. The ends of the tendon are sutured together over the knot, so that the knot remains buried in the tissue

The AchilloCordPLUS is indicated for patients with acute ruptures of the Achilles tendon, but is particularly suited to patients where an extended period of postoperative immobilisation is undesirable.
